When Meagan and Rob first reached out to us, it wasn’t to plan a proposal. It was to plan Meagan’s 40th birthday! About a month into the planning process, while we were designing an incredible birthday weekend, Rob reached out with a secret.
He wanted to propose.
Rob knew he wanted to kick off Meagan’s birthday weekend in the best way possible. By asking her to marry him. He also knew exactly where he wanted to do it. The Wharf, the place where the two of them first met. It couldn’t have been a more meaningful location to begin this next chapter of their story.
Once we landed on the idea of a yacht proposal, Nautiste’s Patriot yacht felt like the perfect setting. Sweet Root Village transformed the front of the boat with lush white floral arrangements. The romantic blooms framed the bow beautifully without taking away from the stunning views of Washington, D.C.
As soon as Meagan and Rob stepped aboard, they were welcomed by live music from a strings duo. The romantic sounds set the tone for their special evening. They were greeted with bottles of Dom Pérignon, fresh seafood, and a beautiful charcuterie spread. As they sailed along the Potomac, they enjoyed every moment together. It was the perfect way to begin the evening before the surprise that was waiting ahead.
As they cruised past The Wharf with the Washington Monument in the background, Rob led Meagan to the front of the yacht. In one of D.C.’s most beautiful settings, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
The look on Meagan’s face said it all. As the ring box opened and she saw the custom Tiffany & Co. ring sparkling in front of her, she was overjoyed. It was one of those moments where everything else around them seemed to disappear.
Just when Meagan thought the surprises were over, they arrived back at the dock to find their friends and family cheering them on. Everyone was so excited to celebrate the newly engaged couple.
From there, they all walked over to Del Mar, Meagan’s favorite restaurant. Their closest friends and immediate family were waiting to celebrate with an intimate dinner together. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable evening and the best way to kick off an incredible birthday weekend.
The evening continued with a family style dinner that felt warm, relaxed, and exactly how Meagan and Rob wanted to celebrate such a special milestone. The table was filled with incredible dishes meant to be shared, creating an intimate and celebratory atmosphere as everyone gathered around to enjoy the evening together. As the courses were served, stories were shared, glasses were raised, and the room was filled with laughter as their closest loved ones celebrated Meagan and Rob’s exciting new chapter.
The menu featured some of Del Mar’s signature dishes, including fresh seafood towers, a selection of Spanish cheeses, grilled scallops, seafood paella, bone in New York strip, and a variety of tapas that kept everyone reaching across the table for just one more bite. Throughout the evening, each course was just as memorable as the one before, and every dish perfectly reflected the restaurant that has become such a favorite for Meagan.
